When Tsunami opened in 2001, sushi in south London meant supermarket trays. The founders, classically trained and Nobu-alumni, decided Clapham was overdue something serious. Twenty-five years on, the brief hasn't changed: source the fish daily, cure the cod for three days, roll sushi to order, treat every Tuesday like a Saturday.
Nothing pre-made. Nothing wrapped in cling film. Our sushi chefs cut from the morning's catch when you order. The 72-hour miso-cured black cod is on every London Japanese list worth reading.
Beyond the sushi, a robata grill running binchotan charcoal, a sake list curated by category and temperature, and a bar that runs the length of the back wall — Lychee Rose Martinis, smoked Old Fashioneds, and a wall of Japanese whisky.
Lunch from noon Saturday and Sunday. Dinner from 5pm Monday and Wednesday through Friday. Last food orders 30 minutes before close, the bar runs on for another half-hour.
